Major Turnout & Support For Fired Police Chief Laura Frizzo at Iron River City Council Meeting Dec 21 | Jason Asselin

Iron River, Michigan City Council
December 21, 2016

The room was packed with many in support of the fired Police Chief Laura Frizzo. Many had something to say!

The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance, then immediately went into "public comment"where the mayor advised everyone they would have 3 minutes each to say what they wanted about this situation. Many people spoke out about this issue, including Amanda List who is a former Michigan State Trooper and currently serves on the Iron Mountain City Council.. Even she couldn't understand how this city manager could do the things he is accused of.. Including gaining entry into an evidence room or looking at Chief Frizzo's computer files. She suggested someone should contact the Michigan Attorney General to investigate this.

Another woman I spoke to said she over heard David Thayer tell patrons in a bar she was working at that "he lived close and was the police chief" when asked if he was ok to drive home.. She told those people that he was NOT the police chief and that he was lying.. It seems as if this city manager has lost all sense of what his job is.. Another person said he was answering police calls on his own, yet the man is allegedly said to not even be able to own a gun?

At times the mayor seemed to take offense to what people were saying, sometimes interrupting them well before their 3 minutes were up. One woman refused to back down and continued to speak to the crowd, you could hear the mayor ask what they should do. The city attorney could be heard saying that the police could remove her..

The best thing for you to do is watch for yourself...

Support Frizzo - The 1st Female Police Chief in Upper Michigan

SIGN THE PETITION HERE

Many people don't know that Laura Frizzo was the first woman in upper Michigan to become a Police Chief. She earned that position after 18 years of hard work and had many struggles like many any other parents raising kids in this small rural town.

She is the first to admit that she was once suspended for an impaired driving in 2005. She over came that mistake in her life and it never stopped her from taking her career even farther than most thought possible at the time...

In December of 2013 the Iron River City Council voted to make Police Officer Laura Frizzo their Police Chief on January 1st, 2014 after she had served the 18 years on the Iron River Police Department.

Laura began her career in law enforcement beginning on the Grand Rapids Police Department and then graduated from Kalamazoo Police Academy. She moved back after being offered jobs by Iron River and the Marquette County Sheriff Department. She took the job in Iron River where she served until the current City Manager took the action he did by firing her..

See the history of David Thayer, Iron River's current City Manager who took it upon himself to fire and ruin Laura's clean service record.

The petition with over 700 signatures on Change.org is calling for the FIRING of City Manager David Thayer and the reinstatement of Police Chief Frizzo. This entire effort is possible, but only if the citizens in Iron River get involved! This will take anyone that gives a shit about the city they live in.. Chief Frizzo can't do it alone, she needs all of your support!

I have seen all sorts of post detailing the actions of David Thayer while "acting" as police chief. Technically he has no police powers what so ever.. If you've seen him do something questionable or possibly illegal, you should report such activity to the current city council.

The city council meeting scheduled for  December 21 at 6pm will surely be filled with angry residents who may not have known about the criminal history of the current city manager. Many others are expected to pledge their support for Chief Frizzo and ask the council to fire David Thayer. This current city council COULD actually take that very action, but many in the community feel they don't have the balls to actually do it..

IF YOU LIVE IN IRON RIVER, MICHIGAN.. YOU SHOULD MOST DEFINITELY SHARE THIS!!

WHY DID IRON RIVER, MICHIGAN CITY MANAGER DAVID THAYER FIRE POLICE CHIEF FRIZZO?

Iron River, Michigan - I guess the easiest way to explain this is to start from the beginning of the troubles.

On September 20, 2016 Chief Frizzo requested personal days off of work, following her preparation and preliminary exam testimony in the Kelly Cochran murder trial. (This is possibly the biggest and most crucial murder case the city has ever seen) The city manager, David Thayer responded that she was to be at work unless she provided him with a doctor's excuse. In recent days we've learned he has issues with people taking days off for medical reasons in his past places of employment.

Either way, Chief Frizzo honored that request by going to her doctor and providing the requested excuse he wanted.

On September 23, she advised the city manager that she was able to return to work on September 28. He denied her from returning and set up a meeting with her for on October 4, he also required a doctor's report before she would be allowed back to work.

At that October meeting, Thayer did NOT allow Chief Frizzo to return to work, even though she provided the requested doctor's report, which allowed her to resume her full duties as police chief. At this time, the city manager further advised Frizzo that he wanted a second doctor's opinion and was going to schedule her for a doctor's examination. The doctor chosen was from Wisconsin and he did have a right to request it.

What happens next have many people wondering what intentions this city manager had in mind when it was learned he entered a secure evidence room by himself during Chief Frizzo's absence. It was during a city council meeting on Nov 9, 2016 when it came out that the David Thayer allegedly had entered a secured evidence room that only Police Chief Frizzo (at the time) had access to inside the police station. That one action could possibly hinder any case where evidence was stored there for "safe keeping" including the murder case.

It was also during this meeting that it was learned that Chief Laura Frizzo did in fact get that 2nd doctors opinion to which the City Manager apparently refused. Even though both doctors approved her to return to duties, David Thayer still refused her return.

This action by the current Iron River City Manager could get a murder trial tossed out for lack of proper secure procedures with the chain of evidence. I believe City Manager David Thayer should immediately fired and Police Chief Frizzo to be reinstated to her duties, allowing her also to prepare for this murder trial. So far near 700 signatures have been gathered on a petition with Change.org titled, "Fire Iron River, MI City Manager David Thayer & Reinstate Police Chief Laura Frizzo Now" - Have you signed?

After all of this finally came out, many are just learning about the criminal history of their current city manager.

The following story was posted recently by TV6 from upper Michigan detailing much of what was posted above. Also see the next report further down of WJMN Local 3 from upper Michigan.

SEE ON TV6 - "After being placed on administrative leave more than two months ago, Iron River Police Chief Laura Frizzo has been officially relieved of her duties. According to Frizzo, she was released by city manager David Thayer, who cited "irreconcilable differences" as his reasoning to fire her."

LEARN DETAILS ABOUT CITY MANAGER DAVID THAYER'S CRIMINAL PAST - "Prior to his move to the U.P., David Thayer was fired as City Manager in Grayling, Michigan after he was arrested and charged with 24 counts of social security act violations according to multiple reports."

This Video/Article from WJMN Local 3 is a great source for info - "According to a letter from current Grayling City Manager Doug Baum - Thayer did this in an attempt to discredit a political opponent. In the same letter, Baum alleges Thayer threatened an employee for using too much personal time to care for his wife - who was sick with cancer."

From the Iron Mountain Daily News (Dec 14) - Laura's lawyer "claims Thayer has a history of animosity toward women and police, telling Frizzo “women don’t belong in men’s jobs.” A police chief in Grayling, Mich., resigned after confrontations with Thayer while he was employed as city manager there, Polich added."

ON DECEMBER 21, 2016 AT 6PM - CITIZENS MAY ADDRESS THE CITY COUNCIL FOR A LIMIT OF 3 MINUTES. THE CITY COUNCIL HAS THE POWER TO FIRE THIS CITY MANAGER ON THE SPOT, JUST AS HE DID WITH CHIEF FRIZZO.

WILL YOU BE THERE?

Michigan Election Recount Is A "High Probability" But Will Counties Be Forced To Pay All Costs?

During tonight's Dickinson County Board of Commissioners Meeting in Iron Mountain, Michigan our local County Clerk discussed the possible recount and the ramifications of such an action. Most of the cost of this recount will be paid for by the county!

Dickinson County Clerk Dolly Cook says this recount effort will cost the county more than $5,000 but will have $2,600 reimbursed. That means the other half will be the responsibility of the county to cover.

This effort for a recount in Michigan will just cost more money that our citizens want to save. Its sad to hear we will be responsible for these costs at the benefit of politicians.

Commissioner Didn't Have Criminal Intent To Steal Public Funds?

Dickinson County Commissioner Barb Kramer was investigated by the Michigan State Police for allegedly committing "larceny or the misappropriation of public funds" after being reimbursed for meeting she attended voluntarily..

This letter is dated October 28, 2016. It was sent to me by Gerald McCole who was cc'd in this letter along with Barbara Kramer. It is written by Menominee County Prosecuting Attorney William G Merkel and addressed to MI State Police Trooper Mundy of the Iron Mountain Post.

"Barbara Kramer did not have a specific criminal intent to steal public funds" said Special Prosecutor William G Merkel of Menominee County, Michigan. He also says in this letter that "Ms. Kramer may have been mistaken on her right to reimbursement from Dickinson County for serving in a voluntary position with the Dickinson Iron Community Agency, she did not engage in conduct warranting criminal charges."

She is still claiming these funds by documenting per diem and millage expenses for reimbursement, but apparently if you document the reimbursements your claiming its not "engaging in conduct warranting criminal charges"..

I really hope she changes her mind and stops claiming money that isn't hers! This letter makes it pretty clear that what she was doing, wasn't correct.. I feel that if she continues to collect these funds (if she gets re-elected), maybe prosecutors should take action.

GET OUT & VOTE, WE HAVE THE POWER TO CHANGE THINGS!

Did Local Commissioners Violate the Michigan Open Meetings Act?

AN ACT to require certain meetings of certain public bodies to be open to the public; to require notice and the keeping of minutes of meetings; to provide for enforcement; to provide for invalidation of governmental decisions under certain circumstances; to provide penalties; and to repeal certain acts and parts of acts.

Kevin Pirlot stood before the Dickinson County Board of Commissioners and questioned their decision to discuss "other" county matters during their Airport Committee meeting. What was more alarming was the fact that their public posting said it would be held in the "Commissioners Board Room - Courthouse" when in fact it was held somewhere at the airport according to the minutes posted.

Below is the PUBLIC NOTICE of the Oct 5 meeting:

Next is the actual minutes from that meeting, note the location where this meeting was held:

Again... This was the AIRPORT COMMITTEE meeting and should have been used for only that agenda. Except when you look at the "other business" and see this:

It sure would have been nice for these commissioners to inform the voters in Dickinson County of the plans DHC were discussing, instead of dropping it our laps at the last moment and only because of a news article posted online.

ONE CAN ONLY HOPE THE DECISIONS OF VOTERS MADE ARE THE CORRECT CHOICES THIS YEAR..

Did County Commissioner/ Chairman Henry Wender Alter Wording On Agenda.. COVER-UP?

For many months Gerald McCole has claimed that Dickinson County Commissioner Barbara Kramer has been collecting money from the county illegally. Now it appears more might be going on behind closed doors than we were led to believe..

Upon writing a letter to Prosecutor Lisa Richards on July 22nd, he was advised to go the local law enforcement agency and he did. Gerald says the Michigan State Police opened an investigation (Incident Number 85-1195-16) and during that time (see letter posted below) he alleges that Commissioner/ Chairman Henry Wender altered/ changed the wording on the agenda "to protect Kramer and others" by adding DISCA under F. Below you can see that change he talks about, is it just a coincidence this was changed during a police investigation?

There is no debating that someone changed the wording under F. in the county agenda. It also shows to be changed during this time of the investigation. Gerald says that on September 23rd Trooper Mundy told him he was handing everything over to Dickinson County Prosecutor Lisa Richards to appoint a Special Prosecutor in the case. Since that discussion with the trooper, Gerald says no word has come of what was discovered or done.

Commissioner Kramer still says she did nothing wrong, but has refused to give any comment to me about it..

Read the letter below I received this morning.

RE : Commissioner Barbara Kramer / County Commissioners

The reply to the letter read at the Monday, October 10, 2016 Dickinson County Board of Commissioners meeting by Commissioner Kramer during Commissioners’ Personal Privilege.  This is my first chance to reply.  ( Copy of her letter attached and part of minutes ) WJNR Radio and the Daily News were quick to pick up on this and make public and I would request they do the same with my reply.

To set the record straight, all the charges against Kramer were made to Prosecuting Attorney Lisa Richards who advised they should go to the proper Law enforcement  agency which turned out to be the Michigan State Police.

On Tuesday August 2, 2016, the criminal complaint was filed with Michigan State Police Trooper Jacob Mundy under Incident Number 85-1195-16.  This investigation continued until September 23, 2016 when Trooper Mundy advised he was done and was handing everything over to Dickinson County Prosecutor Lisa Richards to appoint a Special Prosecutor.

Commissioner Kramer is not being truthful.  She was not authorized by the county Board to attend any DICSA meetings.  Investigation shows that for decades a representative of the County Board did ( See Board Agendas ) DHS / Community Services Agencies—Commissioner Smith and then Commissioner Kramer.  Commissioner Smith did attend all DICSA meetings and report to the County Board and the Public.  Commissioner Kramer did not attend any DICSA  meetings and report back to the County Board or Public.  Records show she then went on the DICSA Governing Board through DICSA Governing Board Chairperson Pete Schlitt and was not appointed by Commissioner Henry Wender, Chair of the Board.

In reply to the second paragraph of her letter, I am alleging that I am now, not only challenging the integrity of Commissioner Kramer but the integrity of the entire Board.  If people would get their heads out of the sand and investigate they would find that Dickinson County Commissioner and Chairperson Henry Wender did between September 12, 2016 and September 26, 2016, while the Michigan State Police investigation was going on, and to protect Kramer and others and maybe himself, against Democracy and acting as a Dictator by himself changed the agenda wording for Board meetings from “DHHS / Community Services Agencies—Commissioner Kramer to DHHS / DICSA—Commissioner Kramer”.

Ms. Kramer, John, Henry and all involved have to know by now that I never put anything in writing or make allegations that I cannot back up with facts as I have proven in the past.

The only solution to overcoming the past 30 years of Non-Democratic Dickinson County Government is to replace all five Commissioners and replace them with Commissioners that would write Rules and Guidelines that would guide them instead of what just occurred.

Iron Mt, Michigan Fire Dept Questions City In Facebook Post?

The following post was made to Facebook on October 12, 2016 via the Iron Mountain Fire Department Facebook page. It addresses the city of Iron Mountain's decision to remove the Civil Service section from the city's charter via voting this November.

"One local political activist has been very vocal in his opinions about the vote to remove the Civil Service section from Iron Mountain’s city charter. But he has some facts wrong.

There are TWO civil service commissions provided for in the charter. One is for police and fire (full time only) under Act 78 of 1935, and the other is for other full time employees in other departments. The ballot question is asking the citizens if they want to remove all of it. Doing so would allow the City Manager to hire anyone for any position, without having a separate no-cost board ensuring that the applicant chosen is qualified and selected fairly.

Act 78 is a good thing. It eliminated the good-old-boy hiring system that existed in the city prior to it’s enactment in Iron Mountain, at least in the police and fire departments. It was voted in by the people of Iron Mountain, and despite what some city officials are saying, it occurred after the unions were in place, not before.

Other cities in Michigan do manage to hire fairly without Act 78. City officials have put forth Marquette as an example of that. But if you look at the contract between the City of Marquette and its firefighters, you will see that the contract creates a board that is essentially the same thing as our Act 78 Civil Service Commission. There is no such language in the contract between the City of Iron Mountain and its firefighters. In fact, eliminating the Police and Fire Civil Service Commission will place the City in violation of that contract, because certain provisions of the contract, including the grievance procedure, refer certain matters to the Civil Service Commission or to Act 78.

I encourage everyone to read Michigan Public Act 78 of 1935. It’s easy to find online with a search. You will see that all it does is create a board, independent of the council and the employees, that enforces rules in order to make sure that employees are hired, fired, disciplined, and promoted fairly. It’s free. Members of the commission are not paid. Going the other way, where all details are contained in a collective bargaining agreement, would require legal fees and arbitration to be paid for by the taxpayers rather than being handled by the independent commission at no cost.

The city is saying that except for the firefighters, nobody has a problem with eliminating the civil service process. I can’t speak for the other departments’ employees, so they may be right. I do know that none of the council members approached the firefighters’ union to ask us. I am the local president, and only one council member discussed this issue with me, and that was after I confronted him about it when I saw him in public.

Act 78 says that the City could ask the voters to rescind civil service for just police or fire - it doesn’t have to be both. So why would they want to do it this way? Here’s where we get back to the good-old-boys system of hiring.

When the City replaced the police and fire chiefs with a director and two deputy directors, they skirted around the law awfully closely. They had to do things like create a totally new department within the city in order to do it. They worded the requirements for the Director position so that none of the firefighters would qualify to apply for the position, but the police would. And when the 2 candidates from the police department both failed the exam for the position - twice - they convinced the civil service commission to change the rules so that they could give extra test points for things like resumes, regardless of their accuracy. Your current Director of Police and Fire Services had exactly 15 hours of firefighting responses in his life, and that includes anything that he might have done at those incidents, even if it was just traffic control. But he’s the one the City wanted in that position, so he’s the one they put in, and now he’s what we have instead of a fire chief. In this case the civil service commission failed to keep the good-old-boy system from winning the day. But if you have a truly independent commission that follows the law to the letter, that cannot happen. The City is still struggling with filling positions with their pre-selected underqualified applicants under the constraints of the Civil Service Commission, and that’s why they want you to vote to remove it.

Don’t let them get away with it. If the system is removed we’ll go right back to the days when council members hired their friends and family to fill positions in the city, and employee turnover will be enormous as old council members are replaced by new. Don’t forget the many people who were hired in the city about 10 years ago that were selected by the City Manager with the council’s approval. You had a public works director dumping sewage on Millie Hill, and a convicted criminal doing property assessments. If those people had been required to be hired under Civil Service (they weren’t because they were “administrative”), they would never have been hired. The city spent hundreds of thousands of dollars that were wasted. Don’t let it happen again. Vote NO on November 8."

Filming a "Ghost Ship" on Lake Superior With Kevin B. Klein

It was an epic fall color tour in the U.P. with Nashville recording artist Kevin B. Klein brought us to the Black Rocks of Presque Isle Park in Marquette, Michigan to watch the sunset.

We were there filming a music video for his new song called "My Michigan" that reflected on many things we saw on this trip!

Looking out onto the water we saw a strange object that appeared to reach the sky.. It looked almost like a giant mast of a ghost ship lost in time!

Some have even said they think it looks like Jesus walking on water holding his staff.. While I think that is a little much, it still allows your mind to wonder as you search for answers of what you just saw.. What was it?

I posted a ton of FALL COLOR photos that I took on my journey across upper Michigan with Kevin B Klein Music

Come see the photos on facebook: Jason Asselin News & Video!

Commissioner Barbara Kramer – Should New Charges Be Filed?

I received this letter dated September 25, 2016 from Gerald McCole concerning the investigation of Dickinson County Commissioner Barb Kramer for allegedly taking our taxpayers dollars illegally and unlawfully in upper Michigan.

After the reply from Prosecuting Attorney Lisa Richards (Letter of July 22, 2016) advising I should go to the proper Law enforcement agency and after receiving advice on which to go to I went to the Michigan State Police at Iron Mountain, Michigan.

On Tuesday, August 2, 2016 I filed the criminal complaint with Michigan State Police Trooper Jacob Mundy under incident Number 85-1195-16. He requested at that time, I refrain from going public until he and a Det/Sgt investigated.  I agreed.

After receiving more information that Commissioner Kramer continues to illegally and unlawfully take our taxpayers dollars ( See copy of Kramer Payroll Ending Date 7-23-16 ).  I delivered this information to Trooper Mundy on August 9, 2016.  He advised he was making calls.

On Wednesday August 17, 2016 I talked to Trooper Mundy and he advised he was alone and had not done anything with a Det/Sgt who would normally be in charge of a criminal complaint of this magnitude.  He further advised he was in communication with Commissioner Henry Wender and other county departments.

On August 22, 2016 Trooper Mundy called. He advised he had been in contact with many including Prosecutor Richards and was scheduled to interview DICSA Executive Director Sandra Essendrup.  He said he had been looking at Board meeting minutes to see if there are any hidden meetings where they could have authorized these payments. He is trying to get an interview with Commissioner Wender and then will confront Commissioner Kramer.  Still no Det/Sgt.  He indicated that the investigation was headed to criminal charges with a Special Prosecutor.

Trooper Mundy called on Monday, August 29, 2016 advising he had interviewed Commissioner Wender and DICSA Director Essendrup and he called again on Saturday September 10, 2016 and advised there would be a Special Prosecutor.  Still no Det/Sgt.

I contacted Trooper Mundy for the final time on Friday, September 23, 2016.  He advised he was done and was handing everything over to Dickinson County Prosecutor Lisa Richards to appoint a Special Prosecutor.  Still no Det/Sgt.

With all due respect to Trooper Mundy, this criminal case and everything connected to it deserves a full blown investigation by the Attorney General and Michigan State Police from Lansing.  The Special Prosecutor should be appointed by them and should be from downstate and Prosecutor Richards should be kept out of the picture while being investigated.

The additional charges are more dollars being taken by Commissioner Kramer ( See Payroll Ending Dates 7-23-16, 8-20-16, and 9-17-16 ).  When the Attorney General and State Police are investigating they should investigate and give to the Special Prosecutor the “Elder Abuse “ charges against Commissioner Kramer.

All concerned Dickinson County Citizens should contact the Attorney General and Michigan State Police in Lansing and request the investigation.

We would request that these actions not be put off until after the November 8, 2016 election.  This has happened in the past in Dickinson County.

Does Dickinson County Prosecuting Attorney Lisa Richards Have Double Standards? (LETTERS PROVIDED)

The prosecutor in any county should have a duty to serve and protect ALL citizens in their county, treating them all fairly with the same respect.

Below you will see 2 letters dated July 22, 2016. Both were sent to two different people (unrelated cases) by our Dickinson County Prosecuting Attorney Lisa Richards..

- In the first letter to Gerald McCole, she talks about her power as the prosecuting attorney and how she can't "independently initiate or investigate allegations of criminal law violations" by private citizens.. She says that Mr McCole should file complaint with law enforcement if he feels laws were broken.

- In the second letter to Kingsford Councilman Anthony Erickson, it says "Warning Letter" on top and in the letter she says their office received a complaint from a citizen (former Kingsford Councilman Brian Smeester) alleging criminal violations by Mr Erickson. This letter says their office is keeping this complaint on file for possible future use if more complaints are received?

The same prosecuting attorney sent 2 completely different letters that say the exact opposite of each other!

Does Lisa Richards have DOUBLE STANDARDS as the Prosecuting Attorney in Dickinson County?

LIST OF FACTS:

1. Lisa Richards sits on the Dickinson County Board with Commissioner Barb Kramer whom Gerald McCole accused of possible criminal acts as a private citizen.

2. Lisa Richards told Mr McCole she can NOT "independently initiate or investigate allegations of criminal law violations" made by private citizens.

3. Brian Smeester lost his seat on the Kingsford Council to Anthony Erickson whom he accuses of possible criminal acts in a letter (posted below).

4. Mr Erickson gets a "Warning Letter" from Lisa Richards after she independently investigated allegations of criminal law violations after a private citizen made a complaint.

SEE WHERE THIS IS GOING?

Why did Lisa Richards send two different letters to two different people saying the complete opposite of each other on the very same day?

Read the letter Brian Smeester sent to Prosecuting Attorney Lisa Richards:

This letter concerning the allegations made by Brian Smeester were posted to his website called "CVC of Dickinson County" located HERE.

I couldn't believe it when I saw it.. I think Lisa Richards is straight up lying, but I don't know to which person. How can she tell one person she can't, but then tells someone she can?

DOUBLE STANDARDS?

Come follow me on Facebook for more on this subject and other political issues in Dickinson County!

Dickinson County Prosecutor - Unable To Investigate Commissioner Kramer?

Gerald McCole alleges that Dickinson County (MI) Commissioner Barb Kramer illegally billed the county for work done while volunteering for DICSA. He says that she volunteered to be on that board vs being appointed (which would have a difference on if she was able to legally bill for services.)

Read this blog post from July 6, 2016: Dickinson County (MI) Commissioner Barb Kramer Asked To Resign, Criminal Acts Alleged!!

The following letter was sent to Dickinson Co Prosecuting Attorney Lisa Richards concerning these allegations made by Mr McCole.

Lisa Richards response suggests that Mr McCole file a police report with a local agency so they may investigate before forwarding any report to her office. She further stated, "I am not empowered to independently initiate or investigate allegations of criminal law violations by private citizens"..

Some may contend that Commissioner Kramer was NOT a private citizen, but is an elected official representing the "private citizens" in her district.

Commissioner Kramer has yet to give any comment to these allegations of misconduct, yet the citizens of this county deserve to know the truth..

Michigan State Representative Ed McBroom Proposes to "Reform" Term Limits?

Michigan State Representative Ed McBroom says Michigan's biggest dis-functionality is term limits and he believes that Michigan's legislators have become "variable and inconsistent" during their terms..

Does Michigan really need to give our legislators longer term limits as he is suggesting? What do you believe term limits should be in the state of Michigan? Is it fair enough now?

Dickinson County (MI) Commissioner Barb Kramer Asked To Resign, Criminal Acts Alleged!!

Tonight I learned of allegations from Gerald McCole (State Advisory Council on Aging Region II) about criminal acts by Commissioner Barb Kramer of Dickinson Co, Michigan.

Mr. McCole is alleging that Commissioner Kramer "illegally and unlawfully obtained" payments for services she did not have authority to bill, to the citizens of Dickinson County.

Mr McCole asks for Commissioner Kramer's immediate resignation from the DISCA Board and also as a Dickinson County Commissioner! It would appear that Commissioner Kramer billed the citizens of Dickinson County for mileage/per Diem while attending the DISCA Governing Board to which she volunteers 100%!

Mr. McCole asks that Prosecuting Attorney Lisa Richards to act on this..

Upper Michigan Fugitive John Wesley Saatio Captured!

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office have captured escaped upper Michigan fugitive John Wesley Saatio after he escaped from a private inmate transportation vehicle during a restroom break at mile marker 29 (Eastbound I-10) rest area in Florida.

At 6:52 PM, a citizen advised police of a suspicious person walking in a wooded area. Based on the description provided, it was believed to be John Saatio. Deputies using K-9 units tracked Saatio for approximately 2 miles and approximately 4 hours when he was apprehended without incident.

Upon searching Saatio, they found 2 makeshift handcuff keys that were located in his socks. Needless to say, he won't be escaping again.

Did This Dickinson County (MI) Employee Get Special Treatment After Her Arrest?

How many people do you know who was arrested for retail theft at Shopko but had their charge(s) dropped by a local district attorney, all while NEVER stepping foot in a courtroom?

It was in 2011 that then Assistant Dickinson County Controller Sonya Pugh was arrested during her lunch break after allegedly shop-lifting (retail theft) at Shopko in Kingsford, Michigan after theft detection employees allegedly caught her..

The theft detection people at Shopko watched her on camera, then proceeded to follow her out to her car. They called Kingsford Public Safety who arrested her and placed her in custody. She also apparently took a shoplifting awareness class just days after her arrest, she apparently blamed her eye surgery from months before for this unfortunate mistake.. If you read all the documents provided in the blog, you'll see they caught her in the act.. Her arrest & charges were kept out of the papers and news reports, then a few days later the charges disappeared?

How does THAT work?

Skip ahead 5 years to the current date...

On June 28, 2016 the Iron Mountain Daily News reported that "Pugh wrote in her resignation letter she is retiring due to health issues."

"Commissioner Barbara Kramer said she was upset about factors - which she did not identify - that led to Pugh's resignation. - I'm very sad. And I know what led to this, and that makes me mad," she said. "That's all I have to say at this point."

In May (2016), Friend of Court Manager Heidi Van Slooten confronted Dickinson County Controller Sonya Pugh after discovering differences in a financial report. It appeared as if money was either missing or misplaced..

You can watch that confrontation below..

Now that Sonya has resigned effective in July, people must wonder the real reason why she has chosen to do so, by Commissioner Kramer's own statements it sounds as if it is not a "health issue" like she is claiming.

Citizens should be outraged that this Dickinson County Board never did their homework in 2014 when they hired someone to handle an almost 10 million dollar budget. A simple FOIA request would have shown exactly what I was given.

In 2014, Commissioner Ann Martin said the board decided to promote Pugh instead of advertising the vacancy because Pugh is capable and a better choice than someone unfamiliar with the county's budget and functions.

I have to wonder if this police report had anything to do with her resignation as the Dickinson County Controller.. I would also like to know the reasons WHY these charges were dropped.. I have NEVER heard of anyone escaping a charge of retail theft from Shopko.. Ever!!!

DO YOU BELIEVE SHE WAS GIVEN SPECIAL TREATMENT BY THE THEN DICKINSON COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY?
